High spec Hillman Avenger - in UK terms I'd call it 75+my GLS (1600) but may be different if Aus-built.

Even Jeremy Clarkson would not make that mistake .....

Anyway update: triggered by a comment that scenes were filmed in NZ, I'm suggesting now an NZ-made Hillman Avenger Alpine GLS, introduced late 72 (so earlier than UK GLS). Details at http://www.allpar.com/cars/adopted/hillman/avenger-new-zealand.html .

Not in NZ - this was locally made, not UK export. I also suspect, but can't confirm this was a 1600cc Hillman Avenger Alpine GLS as launched in revised form in early 74 from the vinyl roof coming down the screen pillars as it did on the UK GLS 1600. The NZ link above is slightly confusing about when the NZ GLS first appeared 72 or 74.

 Are there somewhere some lists about all Kiwi-made cars? Like we have found for Chile, Argentina or Egypt?

Perhaps I should clarify the comment re the number of NZ-built cars. In the later period - say post 1980 - the number of NZ-assembled car dwindled rapidly, but before that most of our cars were locally assembled. As dsl states it is most likely a locally built Avenger Alpine. There were quite a few car trim variants that were NZ only. I think one example is the Ford Cortina GTE which combined elements of both the British GT and Executive models. Even our Jaguar XJ6s were locally assembled for a time.

The Avenger looks to have an HE series plate which would be 1974.

Another Avenger variant - the red one at far right - can be seen in the thumb pic. Also in that pic is a red Mitsubishi 1850 coupe which would have been assembled in the same plant (Todds) as the Avengers.

So can add made in NZ to listing.

Missed that one - a bit of a hopeful punt at such distance, but colour/trim/roof combination looks very 1977-ish UK Chrysler Avenger GL - same for NZ??

For BMC/BL/Rover in NZ see http://www.aronline.co.uk/index.htm?nzwholestoryf.htm .

Re the other Avenger - yes difficult to pick which model but definitely a later one. From what I see in other pics from this movie, I think what I thought was a Mitsubishi 1850 coupe in this scene is actually a Toyota Celica.
