1975 - 1984 CX Pallas and most likely a GE (Grand Exportation) version, these types where for markets outside Europe and had slight modifications to local conditions.

The whole movie was shot in the USA I guess.
So shouldn't we list this one as a "CXA CX" or "CxAuto CX" rather than a "Citroën CX"?
Edit : this only applies to cars sold after 1985, so since it is the old model it is still "Citroën CX".

I too thought the whole movie was shot in the USA. But this CX has kind of an odd license plate. Perhaps they did shot some scene's somewhere else, or wanted it to look like they did.
Does the article about Citroën in the USA say something about the first type of CX being imported to the US? To my best knowledge they never did, but I am not sure..?

The scene is supposed to be in Tibet or something like that (I do not remember exactly ; same location than the joke with the Mercedes wheel).

In the article that I posted on the forum, they said that first CX were imported by CX Automobiles Europe, but do not said anything about rebranding, so I assume they were sold as Citroën CX. Due to pressure from Citroën, since 1985 until 1992 they were sold by a new company : CXA International. The cars were re-badged (cf the "CxAuto CX GTI/Prestige/Estate Owner's Manual" picture on one of the page of the article). In the last years they imported few XM.

IMDB:
Errors in geography: All of the scenes supposedly taking place in Iraq were obviously not filmed there or anywhere even close. They looked a lot more like northern California than the Middle East. (This might have been an intentional joke.)

Seems to be shot In the US after all.

This car is a 1980 CX 2500 Pallas Diesel, ands appears to be one of the 1980 CXs imported to the United States as new cars by Trend Imports of Hermosa Beach, California. Several dozen Citroen's were imported by this firm, but the founder was prosecuted by the government on an unrelated matter, so they were only brought in that one year. Diesels were easier to certify in the United States and California. This film was shot in the US, so by definition this is a car that was imported against the wishes of the company, which actively tried to prevent American's from driving CX's. CXA was the largest importer of CX's to the US, but that came later, in 1985.

I've heard that Citroen had trouble importing the CX due to the hydraulic fluid being dyed the wrong colour for US regulations. It was dyed green because it was different to normal fluids dyed black or red, which had to be used to fall in line American rules. Eventually Citroen were made exempt from this rule.

This is a parody of a scene in Rambo 3 (I think), in which Rambo is living in a monastery in Thailand and has to be persuaded to take up arms again and venture into Afghanistan to rescue his old commander from the evil Russians.

So, anyway, that's a fake Thai plate.
