@DidierF (or anyone also interested in French plates) - can you say anything about this reg. plate? Judging by brochures this wider "Saviem" lettering had to be introduced in late 1977, 1978 or 1979 - maybe plate would help. After all such cars perhaps weren't too often re-registered.
These black fairings had to be used since 1977 judging by the same pics source:

[""DTZ75] is a late 1981 registration…

… so maybe helpless. (I meant 'useless'.)

Let's have a look to… argh, I'm at home, pretty slllllllow connexion… You'll have it much faster:

(Petty slow thinking or wrong reading from me too: you had made the job already!)

Thanks.
Unfortunately "Renault de papier" has only one and side view of 1978 "J". I found such brochure dated for 1978 on ebay:
Link to "www.ebay.de"
it still shows narrow "Saviem" lettering, but one more source would be nice to be sure (maybe they introduced this new badging in mid-1978)...

BTW - it is strange that truck from movie with such badging was registered in late 1981, so perhaps it wasn't its 1st registration (since 1980 marketed as Renault).

If it's a genuine er… transport blindé (fund conveyor)—and it looks like one— maybe was it built relatively late on a Saviem basis, hence the (relatively) late registration.

Yes it is very possible explanation.

Well it is hard to find original pics of 1978 Saviems "J".
In brochure from january 1978 the lettering is still narrow:
Link to "www.marktplaats.nl"
But then there are to find at Google at least 3 Saviems "J" made in 1978, which already have the wide "SAVIEM" lettering.
So to me it is enough to narrow down 1st year of this new lettering to 1978 (maybe it was late 1978, but "model years" for trucks aren't so obvious, especially for old ones).
One more thing is that 1978 was also 1st full year for Saviems "H", which (except the cab) used the same mid-part of grille what "J" and had to have wide "SAVIEM" lettering since beginning - so it makes sense, that soon after introduction of "H" they unified with it the badges of the "J" models.
