no way to tell for sure, though ~ based on the BBS style factory wheel, and the release date of the movie, i'd lay big money on it being a 535i. not likely to be a 525i with the wheels, and too early for it to have much chance of being a V8 (530i or 540i) model.

E34 525i or 535i. Extra alloy wheels doesn't depend of engine size. They're optional.

In those times BMW measured up to strange requests. You could get even completely "naked" E34 - steel wheels, any electric windows - but the largest 3.5-litre engine.

V8 versions have wider kidney always.

not in the U.S. market... never saw a single e34 car sold in the U.S. with steel wheels or without power options. only very rarely did we see a stripped down e28 car that had drifted in across the canadian border, and couldn't be registered locally. MOST 525i models were sold with the "bottlecap" alloys, though some were indeed sold with the BBS style wheels - more by percentage later in the production run. generally, if you saw the BBS type wheel, the car would turn out to be a 535i. 2 dozen or so 5-ers have done time in my driveway, ranging from an e12 1977 530i through an e34 1995 540i 6MT. they make great road cars for the money if you don't mind buying them 10 years old and doing most or your own maintenance. true fact about the kidneys. i hadn't considered that, though the V8 cars were pretty much ruled out by the release date of the film anyway. back full circle - truly no way to tell on this one for sure. could be a 525i that was dressed up a bit more than the average U.S. car, but i would still place my wager in the 535i column.
