Isetta? http://www.isetta-owners-club-gb.com/art_1.htm "It is known that the RAC had at least one Isetta van in use in 1959, which they were testing with a view to adopting as replacements for their motor cycle patrol vehicles. Evidently the replacement was not a success, as the Isetta was quietly dropped in favour of the A35 and minivans." Semaphore signal arms confirm it I believe... "There was one unusual feature on the RAC van, which are believed to have been German built vehicles, and this was the additional direction indicators fitted to the sides of the van body. These indicators were of the old fashioned 'semaphore' variety. Still, is it indeed a German built vehicle (as stated in one of the above links)? Then it's a BMW Isetta. But one would expect a British built version in use by the RAC, and indeed the big bumper is like some of these: /vehicles.php?make=isetta&model= |

From the picture here it appears almost certainly to be left hand drive so German rather than UK assembled I think. The bumper modification and badge removal are quite possible to make them look more like the British versions for the RAC evaluation. http://www.fareham.org.uk/p.shtml?2006/goodwood/revival/crw_6546.jpg Also Isetta owners club GB website's comment plus the DVLA listing (although mistakes and wrong listings are fairly common)mentioning 'BMW' seals it for me, it's a BMW Isetta. |
