It was a while since I saw this film, but if I´m correct one of the cars in the courtyard got damaged. Was it prehaps this Land Rover. I just remember a man walking out of the house, yelling " Did something happend to my car?", to which the owner of the Land Rover replied "No, only to my SUV/Jeep/Land Rover". Am i right? |

Yes, the Land-Rover was burned, then one asked what happened to his limousine (the Citroën XM) and the owner of the Land-Rover said that it was his "Range" that was damaged. |

Burned car seems to some aftermarket four door conversion such as Monteverdi. Other images I'm not sure about. I think it's a newer factory four door but the only clear sign of that is the grill. |

Interesting thought, and it would be fun to find one, but Monteverdi had distinct grille badge and earlier side trim eg http://www.wods.dk/rangerover/pr/1980-monteverdi/r-pr-00r.htm . Am not sure what to make of this one - has lots of later trim and not absolutely sure how many doors it has. Could be a bodge-up to look newer for when it goes boom - looks as if side glass removed. |

The burned car looks not to be a conversion but a 'mock-up' of a four-door using a two-door body. The four-door flap handles are merely stuck on to the door panel and rear panel and the larger old full length two-door handle remains in place. |

Confusing dating evidence. Vinyl rear pillar = 73+, front quarterlights until June 84. Glass's says lower side strip and front features (grille, fogs, spoiler) were fitted from Oct 85 and are OK for a late 2 door which was available until 87. However http://www.lrfaq.org/FAQ.2.Ident.RR.html says 2 door stopped Jan 84. And I can't be sure when these alloys started. So the default date becomes 73 unless anyone can disentangle further. |

The 2 Door was discontinued in the UK at the time of the facelift. It was still made until later for other markets including France so a facelift 2 door is possible. This also has the later mirror style. My favoured option is that two different cars were used. A newer model and an older one to show the burned car. |

I understand the subtleties of your thinking now - it becomes the only logical explanation of why they dress up the burned car. Both the boom car (1st thumb) and the burned car have quarterlights so both older than mid 84. Boom car could be 4 door on visible evidence so Sept 81+ and has been updated with 85 front and side trim. Burned car is 2 door and does not look as if it has fixing holes for lower side trim. Strange that they blow up one car (possibly 4 door) then decide to get hold of another (2 door which has to be dressed up as 4 door) and show that in its place. Perhaps the boom was too big? |
