This is a 1993 Suzuki Sidekick JX Special Edition Note the JX Special Edition body stripes and upgraded JLX seats (standard on the JX-SE) This one is also equiped with a SGA spare tire cover.

4-wheel-drive ?

yes JX and JLX trim levels are 4WD. The only two wheel drive Sidekicks were the JS trim levels

All Suzuki Sidekicks (and Geo Trackers) were 4x4 until 1991 when a 2WD model was introduced, and they all have a real transfer case (unlike most small SUVs these days) with 2H, N, 4H and 4L. The lower trim level (JX) has manual front locking hubs while the higher trims (JLX, Tracker LSi, CL and SLE) have Automatic hubs. This particular truck has the automatic hubs as that was one of the JLX goodies that came on these JX Special Editions.

Do you know if Suzuki use transfer cases from BorgWarner or some other manufacturer ?
I know Isuzu use transfer gearboxes from BorgWarner in almost all its 4x4s like the Trooper, including
the BorgWarner transfer cases with computer controlled multi-plate locking center differentials.

The Transfer case in the Sidekick is a BorgWarner unit built under license by Aisin, which is referred to as Aisin-Warner. And about the Isuzus I remember the TOD (Torque On Demand) in my Trooper all to well.

Sounds like you weren’t too pleased with the TOD transfer box ... :D
