Top Secret! is notionally set in present day (1984) East Germany, but the setting is just an excuse for jokes invoking all the clichés of spy films and war films. The portrayal of East Germans as Nazis is part of the joke and not done through ignorance or laziness. |

It is sad that they did not try to find a 1930's Mercedes Benz. Because this was a low budget production, it probably would have been hard if not impossible for the Sidaris' to find something vintage for a short scene. |
