My guess: Toyota Corolla Sedan. |

I think it is a Toyota Corolla AE82 (1984). But those headlights.... |

Not Chevrolet Nova? |

It's either a Nova or a Corolla; the only real difference is the badging. The blue van in the back is a Ford Econoline. There isn't much of the gold car that can be used to identify it. |

It's a Nova, the Corolla had a different front. |

A friend of mine used to have one just like it and I used to have a similar 1984 Corolla. Some of the differences with the Corolla were: the front ends (the 1984-85 Corolla had one headlight per side, the 1986-87 Corolla had composite headlights and the Nova had quad headlights), the rear end (trunk door and taillights were different) the shape of the roof on these notchback sedans (the Corolla notchback lacks the triangular window in the "C" pillar). The Nova has a GM radio, a slightly different dash and steering wheel and seat fabric like in other GM models. They also had a Harisson radiator like GM cars (but I have seen other Toyotas with GM Harisson radiators, including my friend's japanese-built 1993 T-100 truck). |

The next three generations of this car were cold as the Geo (1989-1997) and Chevrolet (1998-2002) Prizm. |

So orign Japan would be correct. |

I think these were actually built in California along side the Corolla. CAMI I believe is the name of the plant. |
◊ 2009-06-26 12:09 |
So a similar situation as in the VW Transporter-plant in Hannover, when they had the VW Taro/Toyota Hilux on the same assembly line? |
◊ 2009-06-26 16:06 |
That's right but the plant name is NUMMI (CAMI is a Canadian plant). They more recently built the Pontiac Vibe there (also mostly with Corolla/Matrix parts) They used to build Toyota Trucks like mine (and now Tacomas) there too but neither of mine came from that plant. The Nova did have quite a few Toyota parts. Even the rear side markers had TOYOTA stamped on them! My 1984 Corolla was made in Japan in September 1983. Here in Canada, GM did sell Novas but no GEO/Chevrolet Prizm. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NUMMI http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CAMI_Automotive |
