You can tell in the DVD that one of the 69 Chargers is an R/T model, and the other is just a base model Charger (no R/T emblems), and one of the cars is quite obviously a 1968 Charger R/T (no split grille).

I know the 58' Sport Fury went up to a whopping 120MPH, faster then my Tempo, my Dad's 98' F-150, my Grand Dad's 02' Silverado, my cousin's 89' Caprice, my uncle's 88' LTD and our 04' Venture.

greencharger68 ◊ 2010-03-26 19:00	i love this movie, as a child i remember my dad driving and i asked him if that thing was going to break, that thing was the speedometer, it was past the numbers they stop at 150 mph. i also remeber being stuck to the back seat and not being able to move at all when he peeled tires, thanks for the pictures of the 68 i did not know that. http://greencharger68.tripod.com/

Cycolac Fan ◊ 2013-07-01 02:18	Supposedly Peter Fonda did pretty much all the driving in this and at high speed, Susan George recalled in interviews being terrified since they were hitting over 100mph with no seatbelts. There was no back projection in this film and the cameras weren't undercranked, they just strapped a camera to the bonnet and took off.

Also look out for Charger badges that appear and disappear from the B pillars and the fact that one of the Chargers was previously equipped with a vinyl roof - you can see the chrome trim at the base of the B pillars. One Charger was also air conditioned according to decals in the side rear windows. Of course once they wrecked the front end of one Charger they had to do it to the others for continuity and that apparently was pretty tricky to get them all to look the same. Read on a forum about a guy who picked up one the film cars cheap, the one used in the helicopter chase presumably since it had a number of long straight dents on the roof (from the helicopter skid) and every panel was damaged in some way. Think he said his girlfriend later wrecked the car and it got crushed. Another '69 hit the train but I wonder if that '68 is still out there, somewhere...?

jwrADPS ◊ 2014-07-07 05:20	INFO and CORRECTIONS: 3 Chargers were used. NONE of them were real R/Ts and all had small block V8s. On film, the 'hero car" (#1 1969 model) was made to appear as an R/T. #2, also a 1969, wore base model emblems. #3 was a 1968 model wearing R/T emblems. All should be listed separately. The wheels were U.S. MAGS "Indy" 5-slot aluminum wheels wearing Good Year W/S bias ply whitewalls (mounted backwards). The color is GY3 Citron Yella (aka Curious Yellow). Limelight / Sublime is much more of a neon green. The '68 was the first one used for the train crash, but it missed the train completely and was demolished, so none of that footage appeared in the film. The second try was the #2 car (base emblems). It is the car destroyed on film. #1 survived and was sold off and repaired, only to be wrecked a few years later. It is not known if it got crushed or simply landed in somebody's yard all these years, still waiting to be found. -- Last edit: 2014-07-07 05:21:46

Could this possibly be the missing 1969 that was supposedly totaled in the late 1970s? Is it possible more than 3 cars were used? his post "Picture on left surfaced a couple of years ago supposed to be a real deck stunt car I have been posting to mopar sites to flush the owner out he claimed to have documentation but doesn't want to sell sad to see it rotting away I believe it is the one pictured what do you think?" he thinks it's the one seen in this shot. -- Last edit: 2014-10-22 16:43:19

Nah man, my dad had a 1968 Plymouth Roadrunner, the speedometer went up to 140 or 150 & he burried the needle going down the hill on Route 85 in Hopkinton, Massachusetts before the Hopkington Reservoir with myself, my mom and my sister all in the car...
2012optimasx ◊ 2015-05-28 04:53	I have watched Dirty Mary Crazy Larry many times over the years since 1974 when it first showed. Never get tired watching it. I owned two 1968 Dodge Charger R/Ts both with the 440 magnum engine, 727 torqueflite automatic trans and 3.23 rear end gearing. I had both cars to top speed which was 130 mph. The 68s and 69s were identical mechanically. I have always wanted to know if Peter Fonda did his own driving or was there a stunt double. The best scene in the movie was when the charger was being chased by the hotrodded police car and the the charger did a bootleg 180 with the police car right up against it also doing a bootleg 180. The scene was shot from inside the police car and the driver of the charger did look like Peter Fonda. I think the scene should have been shot from the outside of the cars so you could see just how nice that maneuver really was. If Peter Fonda did that stunt with no stuntman, he has got some serious driving skills.

This and 1970 Dodge Challenger R/T from Vanishing Point (1971) are my top favorite movie cars (no surprise since VP and DMCL are my favorite car chase movies, lol), but if i would have to pick, i would choose Challenger as my top favorite. I wonder who would win in a race, Kowalski and Challenger or Larry and Charger... Fun fact; In original novel from 1963 the main getaway car is "green 1961 Chevy four door with twin pipes", and in the end during the final chase just when they are about to lose the cops the driver loses control and slides into the Taxi and then straight into utility pole in a very nasty sounding crash.
