Please remove the 'Chrysler'. This is an Imperial Crown Convertible, not a humble Chrysler.

It appears to have been equipped with A/C; an uncommon feature for 1962-

Rear-ended by the Ford truck :(

I love Ethel Merman's line- "WE'RE the ones in the Imperial and WE'RE running last?!"

There is a second Imperial in the film which I don't see listed. Its a 'one star' at best since its only on-screen briefly. When Jerry Lewis makes his cameo he runs over Spencer Tracy's hat with a bronze or brown Imperial.

Sorry Magnum, Jerry does his thing in a 1962 Chrysler Convertible.

I've seen a page of the original script - the car as written was supposed to have been a Cadillac. "WE'RE the ones in the Cadillac and WE'RE running last?!" does have more of a snobbish tone to it! My guess is they changed it to an Imperial because (a) Chrysler Corporation provided many of the cars and (b) the Imperial was a better handling car for the stunt driving than a Cadillac would have been. (I've driven both - trust me.)

big dave is right: it is a '62 Chysler 300 convertible.

The phrase was translated in Italian as:"we are the ones in the Chrysler and we are running last..."

While Ethyl Merman calls the car an Imperial, one of the police officers calls it a Chrysler Imperial. Chrysler Corp. was trying very hard to separate the Imperial from the Chrysler in the minds of the public at that time. They provided cars to the producers of IAMMMMW to promote their 1962 line, so I'm surprised they allowed that line.

Some of the cast helped smash the rear end up further when it was felt the initial damage wasn't severe enough, it didn't matter though because the car wasn't seen on screen again!

The Imperial went on to have a second life though, the back end was removed and it became a sort of pick up truck to move stuff around the studio lot, Buddy Hackett recalls seeing the car at the studios well into the late 1960s.
