Non ? |

Hunter S thompson's personal car was loaned for use in the movie. in the book,it is the shark (this car) which is trashed instead of the caddy. |

Une Impala convertible , il y en a une dans laquelle De Funes passe un long moment dans le film "Dans un arbre perché" |

I can tell there were at least two cars used in the movie- In one scene where Raoul Duke is trying to leave the hotel, and in the police chase, you can see that the car has white 73-74 interior door panels, where in other shots the car has the correct 71-72 style panels. They probably fixed up Hunter's actual Impala for the movie and then built a secondary car from whatever parts they could find. |

I just finished the book...the Impala was abused, but the Cadillac was the one outright destroyed in the book. It was driven into Lake Mead, jumped across a highway median and through a fence, drove at over 100 mph down an airport runway, and had it's tires inflated to 75 psi (as an "experiment") among other misadventures. |

Johnny Depp actually swapped his car for Thompson's so he could drive it around and get used to it. That, and he stole some of Thompson's clothes... |

Hunter S. Thompson, unsurprisingly, wrote a book about the time he drove around in Depp's car with a girl named Heidy. He titled it Fear and Loathing in Hollywood: My Doomed Love at the Taco Stand. |

Assorted shots of the "Red Shark". That's correct; I noticed one interior shot where "Caprice" is written on the glove compartment in script instead of "Impala". -- Last edit: 2011-10-25 05:54:36 |

Looks like this one has optional 400 (402 CID) engine fitted in. So model 16467. |

Good choice of capture for the main image. |

In the book, they never state what model or year it was, it was a Fireapple Red Chevy Convertible, but no model, so it could be a Impala or it could be a Chevelle |

I wonder if this really was Hunter's personal car. I read it here that Hunter actually owned a '73 Caprice that allegedly was gifted to him in 1991 by some friends of his to honor the Red Shark from the original Fear & Loathing book. So the question is, where did this Impala come from? |

It would appear they used the '73 Caprice for some interior shots while using a '71 Impala for 95% of the movie. The 73 Caprice also has an Impala steering wheel for inexplicable reasons. |

That's quite enlightening. I always thought the Caprice looked better than the Impala though. |
