Aha, thank you robi, expert on all things Bond!!! In looking at this screen capture, I suspect it is the same effect that was used later in Octopussy when the Acrostar comes out of the hangar. A miniature door was built and placed in front of the camera as to appear it was the real door on the hangar and that there was limited room for the jet to fly out. This looks either split screen or a similar effect with models in the foreground. What made me think that this was a model was the space shuttle outside on the launch pad. This was 1979, and the Columbia did not launch until 1981. Even with a $30 million budget and cooperation from NASA and Rockwell, I can't see how the filmmakers could have a space shuttle put on the pad. Besides, I am not sure there would have been anything full-sized to place on a launch pad. Regardless, the Bond special effects people were geniuses at their work and were almost always more convincing than anything CGI. |
