Have been trying to establish how to date visible changes on the VX4/90 FB following a casual comment in a magazine which didn't sound right. Given that the VX4/90 did not change its grille in the Sept 63 FB facelift, the details are fairly faint:
- Sept 61 - launched with varying thickness side flash, upturned-T pattern rear lights, and no shroud on rectangular rear numberplate - as seen above. Not sure why but I can't see the front wing badge which should be present.
- Sept 62 - thicker consistent side flash, no shroud on rectangular rear numberplate - as seen here
- Sept 63 - square shroud for rear plate - as seen here and fitted to all facelift FBs. Nothing else external seems to affect the VX4/90 at this point - the grille, grille badge and wing badges all seem to continue unchanged. Not sure if a new hubcap might have happened.
Sept 64 - discontinued when FC launched.

Brochures on Vauxpedia agree from a quick search.

No hub-cap change I think but side badges simplified possibly to slimmer rectangle at the same time as number-plate shroud addition, previously the VX section was taller than the 4/90.

Hub-caps with full wheel-trim rings probably borrowed from the Velox/Cresta since the VX4/90 FB used their carry-over 5-stud wheels (Victor FB was 4-stud) to get uprated braking with discs. Side trim sourced from US/Canadian Envoy models as was the FB facelift's rear number plate surround. (Vauxpedia)

A slightly interesting observation...
A VX4/90 FB 'Earls Court' show car road-tested by 'Motor' in 1962 with a 1961 registration was photographed with the wider side flashes; therefore the management at Vauxhall were probably not intending to use the slimmer-stepped Envoy side flash initially. However the parts on the show car must have been prototype bits that were not tooled until 1963 MY.
