Mk 6 or R-type chassis because semaphore indicators fitted between doors.

Suicide doors to rear and front hinged doors to front plus chrome waist strip suggest Freestone and Webb as coachbuilder, but this is a suggestion not a probability.

Couldn’t it be a Mk.VI Saloon by H. J. Mulliner? As far as visible, it looks like the one that appears elsewhere in the series:

fortengo: - Sorry, I have read the book back to front. The chrome waist strip indictes HJM rather than F & W, so you may well be right. We can then eliminate the R-Type and agree on Mk VI, and this certainly looks like the car that you refer to in your quoted picture.
