Late 70's GMC Astro 95 I believe.

Was listed as "tow truck", but this is for vehicles made for pulling other vehicles. A truck with a trailer is listed as "trailer truck".

I believe it's a GMC Astro 95 too.

The truck full of cigarettes. I thought it was a box truck pulling a trailer but when i watched the chase, I noticed that it was a double trailer with single axels. i agree with it being an Astro, but not a 95

As far as I know, "Astro 95" was the full model name of the truck, there is none with just "Astro" :??:

It's this indestructible monster that completely annihilates whatever it comes into contact with, and the driver is a total psycho.

Modifications to the truck included an extra strong front bumper. See that big box right behind the cab? It looks like a big air conditioner unit but it was in fact a box for the camera to lie in and get some moving shots over the driver's shoulder - brave man!

First picture in the bottom row: He appears to be sideswiping the very same '72 Impala he pushed the vegetable truck into!

Possibly one of the most satisfying chase sequences in film history this! Short, but heavy on the carnage.

1978 or newer, since 1978 with the big grill from the switch of the small grill

positivly sure it's a 1978 or 1979 model truck

I find that very easy to believe, at least the part about the hidden compartment for the cameraman. It'd be nice to see those two other pics that Kooshmeister added restored.

In the director commentary, Martin Brest mentioned that the bumper was reinforced with a steel I-beam and was nicknamed "The Train" by the crew since it could go through anything.

4 horizontal slots in the bumper and door handles at the bottom of the doors mean a 1980+ Astro (without 95):

(1969-79 Astro 95 // 1978-79 Astro 'SS' // 1980-87 Astro)

I worked on Astro's when they were in service,I laughed out loud at the theater when i saw this scene ! I had a Astro come in with an exhaust leak and it turned out the cab mount the front spring mount and the radiator mount shared the same 4 bolts . The truck was backed into in a parking lot causing the cab to shift and pulled the exhaust stack away from the turbo pipe.

Why didn't they just use a sleeper cab?
