Left head light sitting much higher together with triangular cuts in the nose under the headlights both suggest this is Ferrari 212 Export 0104E of Gianni Albarelli, but where and when was this scene shot? Most of the film was shot during Mille Miglia 1955 - and 0104E entered the race with #656 but did not start due a pre-race accident. So this scene must have been cut somewhere else... |

Looks like it but I'd like to get that 100% confirmed. The problem is I am not aware of a sports car race arranged there in 1954 (doesn't mean there could not have been one). Looks too big to have been created for the film... |

There was no Monaco Grand Prix in 1954. However, the 1952 Monaco Grand Prix was a sports car race. Is this a scene from that race? |

No, this is not Monaco in 1952. The racing numbers do not match and both Austin Healey 100 and the Alfa sports racer was introduced first in 1953, I think (enter "the racers" into the search window to see other stills from this film). Besides, they are driving into wrong direction; there are some great pictures from the 1952 race taken in front of that aqueduct-like bridge or banking... Maybe there was a sports car race that did get only little attention??? I still have hard time believing this would have been set up just for the film. It looks too massive for that. |

You're right Chammo. I hadn't looked at the other stills first. Did they use very low quality film stock to make this movie? The buildings in the background at 'Monaco' look suspiciously like a badly painted glass matte or very bad film stock. If it is a matte it would explain the crowd in the background. I haven't seen the film so it is difficult for me to judge. |

Haven't seen the film either, but it seems that they did make up this scene using Mille Miglia entries for it. So not a real race, but a 212 Export anyway... |

I got also intrigued by these photos! Especially the Alfa at the right caught my attention. It's a Disco Volante spider, the so called "narrow sided spider" for the anoracs 1359.00002;) The car is now in the Schlumpf museum. For me it was confusing to see the car race in Monaco! Owner of this car was the Swiss driver Ducrey. He raced the car in many events in Swizzerland, France and Germany, but I have never found any infos about him racing the car at Monaco. I checked a book about the GP of Monaco and also found out, like mentioned before, that only a Touring car race was held as GP of Monaco in 1952. The next GP of Monaco was held in 1956 and that was a F1 race. So maybe a Touring car race in Monaco got totally lost and fell off all records, or what seems more and more possible is that the whole scenery at Monaco was staged only for the film. That would also explain why they run anti-clockwise. Regarding the other screeshots of the movie we see many photos from other race locations in Europe like the MM, or the Spa-Francorchamps and Nurburgring tracks. And somehow these scenes look more real to me than the whole Monaco scenery. Anyway, I am looking for more photos of this car in this movie... Carlo |

It can be a 166S, a 195S or a 212 Export, but the picture is too blurred. |

It's a Spider (also called "Barchetta") bodied by Touring anyway. I would say : 166 MM, or 195 S, or 275 S, 212 Export or 340 America, pre-1952. As "more" 166 MM were produced, re-conditioned afterwards or not, I would go for Ferrari 166 MM Spider Touring, ca. 1950. More investigations required, maybe... |

Chammo's comments confirmed to some extent that a Ferrari 212 Export Touring Barchetta 1951 serial number 0104ED did compete in 1952 Monaco GP for sportscars, but driven by Giovanni Bracco with #88 - retired http://www.barchetta.cc/english/All.Ferraris/Detail/0104ED.212Export.htm . The problem is that the Alfa on left #28 /vehicle_172017-Alfa-Romeo-Sport-C52-1953.html is not shown in entry list or results http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1952_Monaco_Grand_Prix so some doubt if this is the 52 race. But no record found of any other big Monaco sports car race in early 50s ..... Also this is not a race shot - all the cars parked neatly, all sorts of odd people all over the place - including apparently a couple of nuclear scientists in radiation outfits.
