I've the impression, that the car had a heavy crash in the past. DynaMike pointed out the wrong turn signals, and if you watch the position of bumper and front hood, you see, that the whole front of the car is warped. -- Last edit: 2008-02-29 19:10:16 |

In Warsaw it was indeed not hard to meet different kind of vehicles (well mainly because it is capital). In other cities the automotive landscape could be less interesting (as I guess). However the most expensive cars you could sometimes find in a small villages (there wasn't full nationalization like in some other comecon countries - so some farmers had enough money to buy one .gif ";)") ).Also please remember, that the proportions on this movie's page aren't perfect, for example I 've made only one entry for Warszawa 223, as all of other in the background were identical. @Ingo the car is indeed not in excellent condition - the engine's sound is nice, but strange. -- Last edit: 2010-01-24 18:08:00 |

In the GDR (the COMECON-country, where the people had the biggest problems to get Western cars) was running at least one Caravelle. Once I read a story about the owner had his problems to hold this car running. Later he has sold it - and got a Citroen DS! He told in the story, that for spare parts (for Caravelle and DS) he travelled to Poland. |

/vehicle_68101-Humber-Hawk-Series-IV-1965.html I remember seeing possibly this very car in the Plac Szczepański in Kraków the year this film came out. I also saw several VW Typ 1s, one or two Minis, a Ford Anglia 105E and an immaculate P6 Rover 2000 which must have been several years old. |

These problems to get spare-parts, the GDR was well known for, you can have still today in similar situations. I'm common with it since years. If you have a classic car (except a Mercedes, Porsche, Jaguar, Rolls, or other British classic like Triumph, MG and so on) in the actual times -even (West-)German cars in Germany- you are in big trouble to get spare parts. To be active wth making contacts and going on search-"expeditions" can be interesting and funny - but it sucks very often very much, too. If you want to have relaxed fun with your classic-car-hobby, you shouldn't buy Opel, Ford or several VW's (except Beetle or Karmann Typ 14). You wouldn't expect it, but the situation with oldtimer-cars from exisiting companies is not much better, than if you would have a Borgward, NSU or Glas. The spare-part-situation for British classic is mostly quite relaxed, with French cars you can be successful and France or the Benelux-countries, but very very bad i's for old Japanese cars, too. Even in Japan you cannot find parts for old Toyotas or Datsuns. |

Since most cars in Japan are sold overseas after a few years, there can't be much demand for spare parts for old models. |

In that case I've tried, with the help of my Japanese friend, to get parts for a 1977 Toyota Corona in Japan, because the (German) owner had no luck over here and in other countries. Yes, Toyota has also made a kind of lookalike-"AutoStadt" as Museum an show-ground, but my friend has found out, too, that Toyota doesn't care about the spare-part-situation for older cars. Nothing. Worse as Opel and Ford. VW tries it a bit, but it's a failure anyways. By the way: in Germany up to 80% of the cars (depends on the model) over here are going sooner or later to the export, too. -- Last edit: 2008-03-01 22:22:24 |

@Ingo, which auto companies are the best for supporting their older cars? I have a '67 Caravelle now but in the future if/when I buy another car I want to buy something with many available parts. Thanks! |

Get a Bentley and join the Bentley Drivers Club. Problem solved! If the Bentley is a bit strong for your bank balance there is excellent support for the Ford Model T, and if that is a bit too old the MGB is also well covered by the classic car aftermarket. There is also the Volkswagen Beetle and the Morris Minor, and the Ford Model A, the V-8s, the Chevrolet Corvette, various Studebakers and Packards with owners clubs, or what about a Jaguar? Generally rule: never trust the auto companies about their classic car topics!  Some have a kind of classic-service, as Bentley, Rolls-Royce, Mercedes Benz, Porsche and Morgan, but at least everywhere it's usual, that they don't bother about their history.Generally ALL makers of common "bread-and-butter-cars" (as we Germans say) or "porridge-cars" (as the British says) you can forget about that. Don't expect ANYTHING from them! Forget the car-makers, look for the most active clubs, resp. the most engaged freaks about the specific cars/specific brands. This I have strongly to recommend.
