I want a 240Z so bad. I've seen a few Devil Z replicas on the net.

The mirrors were mainly used in Japan, not on the imports to the US. Fairly rare now because they were small and you couldn't see clearly enough in them. Also, clearly '70-'73. Later models were a bit different(glass protecting the headlights and lots of other minor stuff). And if anyone would be interested in the rims, they are RS Watanabe Eight Spoke R-Type.

it's a series II s30, because the key is a double sided key, like the present day nissan cars(a few of them at least) and the series I s30 from 1970-1973 uses a single sided key. also, it's not a nissan, it's a datsun.

the tail lights alone limit the year range to 1970-73. the car used in the live action film is intentionally made to look like a 1971.5-73, so logic would say that the animated version should fall into the same year range. that would indeed make the car a series II or later. that said ~ what's shown in the captures here doesn't rule out earlier cars. the easiest determining factor is whether there are vents in the rear hatch panel below the rear window (1970-71 model years), or not (1971.5-73 model years)... a detail that is not visible in any of these images. all things considered, 1972 seems safe. as for datsun vs. nissan, for the JDM, this was definitely a Nissan badged vehicle all the way back to the release in late 1969, as well as throughout the rest of the [S30] run and beyond.

I know that it looks like a series I, because it has the turn signals on the bumper, and not beneath the hood like a series II. but in the series they use the wrong key. so that is verry confusing.

actually... we're just using the terms differently. generally, within nissan/datsun circles, the series I-IV divisions all fall within the 1970-1973 model years, based on changes during the production run. i checked some hit and miss youtube scenes to go with the captures here, and the determining factors seem to be constant, though the details of the car do change of course. as far as i saw, the reverse lights are always in the main tail light assembly rather than separate units in the rear panel (1970-73), and the sail pillar emblems are always the series II and later round vented style used from the late 1971 model year onward. same verdict: intended to represent a late 1971-73 model fairlady z, and remains quite realistic... in spite of the animators using the wrong style of key.
