In fact the name "caravelle" was given first to US market version of Coupé and cabriolet in 1960/61...while in France and maybe in europe too, the name was Floride...in 1962, Renault took this name to give it to its new Coupé (2+2)and distinguish it from the former Floride Coupé still in production ( it will disappear next year with the Floride S)

Didn't the name change from 'Floride' to 'Caravelle' in Europe coincide with the deletion of the fake chrome air intakes ahead of the rear wheel arches the Floride had and the Caravelle lacks?

Yes and no... Indeed, the fake chrome air intakes is delated in 1962 on the new coupé "Caravelle" but on the new "Floride S" too , launched in the same year with 956cc engine, while the "Floride Cabriolet, Coupé or Convertible" still available with the 845cc engine keeps this fake accessorie ... In 1963,the 845cc version disappear from the range.
