Vitesse Mk1, probably 2-litre. |

No "2 Litre" badge on the front wing, so perhaps a 1600? |

After digging around, agree 1600 because there is no reverser built in the number plate housing - compare without versus with. I'm not sure how reliable the side badge presence is in practice - there's a lot of 2-litre Mk1 with one, but also lots without. So all we can say is some had it, but absence is not diagnostic; no idea if that's real or just a quirk of many modern survivors - maybe replacements are unobtainable now?? I also had a long look at rear pillar badges in case they changed, which looked as if it might lead somewhere after this 2-litre Mk1 with red badge but that one is a red herring (in both senses of the phrase). There may yet be some differences in the fill colour - with silver and/or blue during 1600/2-litre Mk1 periods and then black (or very dark) on 2-litre Mk2, but not enough clear views to pursue. And this compilation has both Triumph and Vitesse scripts within the badges, but both apparently occurring on 1600s, so another dead end (and not much use for us anyway as they're too small to read successfully without a very tight close-up). |
