That's a 1952 Pontiac Catalina... It has dual strips on the door and the wide spear on the front fender. The 51's also had a piece of trim between the front wheel opening and the park light which this car doesn't have. |

I stand corrected. Catalina was not a seperate model in 1952. To my knowledge, Catalina was akin to Riviera denoting a pillarless hardtop. -- Last edit: 2009-12-18 07:46:12 |

This is the second strip the user pontiac52 is referring to: Link to "www.conceptcarz.com" |

I just watched the movie again and for sure it is a 1952 Pontiac Catalina. And yes, Catalina refers to the body style which being a Hardtop (pillarless) car. The actual "model" would be Chieftain and depending on which engine is in it... it could be a series 25 (flat 6) or series 27 (flat 8) car. -- Last edit: 2009-12-26 05:39:55 |

This scene was based on the car chase that led to the murders of Civil Rights Workers, Andrew Goodman, Michael Schwerner and James Chaney who shot by members of the Mississippi White Knights of the Ku Klux Klan, James Jordan and Alton Roberts near intersection of Route 515 and Route 284 near Philadelphia, Mississippi on the night of the 21st June 1964. -- Last edit: 2022-10-09 09:39:38 |
