1958 Mark6A Alvis Salamander Crash Tender, uses same 6x6 chassis as Alvis saracen APC series and Alvis Stalwart amphibian.in RAF use it was allways used in tandem with the Nubian pictured elsewhere. Salamander was a foam only tender with equipment by Pyrene or Foamite, could make 9,000 Gall. of foam in 2 minutes.in military use, the Mk6A version was known as FV652..the earlier Mark6 version (with an identical grille to the Nubian) was designated FV 651 (A)..the smooth front to the pictured Salamander identifies it as the Mk6A version..the "gun" type foam nozzle above the cab indicates in this instance, the fire fighting equipment was by Pyrene. -- Last edit: 2007-11-20 15:43:54 |
