no, but I think it was less easy to drive this LN than a current Peugeot 207 or VW Polo .... the type and size of cars used in France learning car driving, by the way you'll never see Audi A4 or similar range car at driving schools in France. Of course driving a LN was certainly much comfortable and easy than driving a Citroen 5CV of 1925 |

Due to the concurrence nowadays the driving-schools are trying to find more customers, so they are offering lessons in cars with higher perfomance. In the Germany of the 80ies the absolute most usual learning-car was the Golf Diesel. Before that millions of Germans have learned to drive on the Beetle. So in 1988, when I made my license, my school-car, that Opel Kadett was really a bit special, because it was a fuel- and not diesel-car. Naturally the VW 181 was a bit more speical. I remember, that in my home-town Hannover in that days it was a real big thing, that one driving-school has offered lessons on a BMW 3-series, they also had a 325 Cabrio, this was a hammer! Nowadays you can see all cars over here. No joke, there are driving-schools, which are offering a Ferrari as a learning-car. |

Really? here you can see any type of car, well not the really expensive ones but as you see i drove an A4, ive seen Lagunas as well, León, Focus and also Scénic etc etc, not rare here. |

I mostly learned to drive on a Ford Prefect 100E, which was a mistake ... it only had three forward gears but also a really nasty fierce clutch. I finally passed my test in a Morris Minor 1000, which - along with the old VW Beetle - must have been one of the easiest cars ever made for a novice to drive. @Ingo: I'd hate to have to pay the insurance on a driving-school Ferrari  ! -- Last edit: 2007-11-07 22:35:40 |

Learned to drive in a '75 Ford LTD.(Parent's car)Took 1st "official" road test for license (with the Tester..a cop)in a -NEW- Fairmont that was a Drivers Ed car from the school district.....that had it's steering go out during the parallel parking test!!!(Really!! Seized up,wouldn't turn,it had to be towed!! Good thing those poles would move!!  )Next time,(2 days later)went back(they told me to come back when I could)with the LTD,(Had Mom bring me up there,I told the tester "I'll drive a car I know will work right") and I 'aced it'!! |

Folks, I have a suspicion Antoine would rather this discussion (for which I admit partial responsibility) should take place on the forum. There have been one or two holy wars of late about which he's been very patient (too patient, IMHO) but perhaps we should guard against red herrings like this in Comments ... Stupid question: if I'm already registered on the site (as I am, or I wouldn't be writing this) am I automatically registered for the forum as well? |
