DynaMike ◊ 2007-10-30 00:30	This colour (Rosita) was available on both 44 and 55 since m.y. 1970. And the Daf 44 had the same wheels and hubcaps from the beginning (September 1966) till the last facelift in September 1972. So this can be a 1970+ 44 or 55. The only external differences were on the front (55: extra grilles) and the rear (55: built-in reversing lights).

Ingo ◊ 2007-10-31 17:10	But which darker red was used in the early 70ies? My grandmother had a 44 in such a colour with beige cloth-seats. It was definetley a 44, and definetley with the newer front. I'm quite sure, that the car was bought as new in 1971 (+/- 1/2 year)

I guess I was wrong with Rosita and Rolita (I had these infos from a book). The colour of the car shown here will be Nationa (our national colour is orange, because of the queen's family name) or more probably Inferno (bright red). Ingo, vielleicht hatte Deine Großmutter einen Daf in der Farbe Estona (backsteinrot), wie sie 1974 geliefert wurde? Leider fehlen in diesem Übersicht einige Jahre, und leider ist auch mein Buch über Daf nicht aufschlußreicher -- Last edit: 2007-10-31 18:53:31
Ingo ◊ 2007-10-31 19:41	Thanks for the infos. I must find out, in which year the DAF was bought. I'm still looking to buy a 44 in exactly the same version. I was a small boy, when she had it (it was scrapped in 1980 after several defects), but I still have good memories about it. So i still have the sounds in my mind. The sound of the engine, of the turn-signal, of the closing of the trunk-hood and so on. Sometimes I've irritated the guys from the DAF-Club. I was asking, if I could test the smell of the inside. I remember the DAF 44-smell very good. Soem years ago I had a strong memory-flash. On a scrapyard I've looked into a Peugeot 104 - and was hidden by the smell inside like from a hammer. It was definetely identical with grandma's DAF 44. This happend around 20 years, after I'd seen the DAF the last time.
DAF555 ◊ 2007-12-15 16:07	The colour lists of both www.dafclub.nl and www.classic-daf.nl are a bit confusing regarding the years. My guess here is that if a date is put, it comes from the printingdate of the coloursheet since they do not always correspond to the dates of production. Anyway, regarding the colour Nationa it was available only on the 55 Coupé as 1970 modelyear. As was the darkblue Marina. And from 1971 modelyear these colours came on the rest of the DAF-program. I think the colour Ingo is looking for is this one: It would be the colour Rosita, available from modelyear 1970 together with the updated front and interior. According to a DAF service-bulletin the modelyear updates for 1971 included white turnsignals on most markets. I don´t have it available at the moment so I´m not sure if the german cars had white turnsignals or if they kept the orange ones. But if your grandmothers car had white it was a 1971 or 72 model. Here you have german pricelist from september 1969 with colours: The beige cloth was not very common as I remember, most cars I have seen are black. And the smell is very distictive If you´ll visit the south of Sweden you´re welcome to have a ride in my 55 Combi.
Ingo ◊ 2007-12-15 16:43	@DAF 555: many thanks for the informations. I'm quite sure, that the red of my grandma's DAF was darker. I must ask my familiy, when she got her 44. Perhaps it was around 1974 and not 1971/72. Then it was "Estona". Thanks for the offer to ride in your DAF. For me it would the first time in a DAF since 1980 (execpt the "smelling test" in the DAF's of the DAF-Club). You should be happy to live in Sweden! Sweden is the European country with the best scrapyards! When I had visited my friend in Avesta in 1999 and 2000, we were travelling around and had made real scrapyard-excoursions. On the way back my car was overloaded with spare-parts from Swedish scrap-yards. Not ony K 70-parts, also a lot of other things, to sell for much higher prices at home. This is the reason, why it's not easy for me to travel to Sweden now. My wife is a travelling-fan also - but she knows, that in Sweden I will spend the most time on scrapyards -- Last edit: 2007-12-15 16:44:33

DAF555 ◊ 2007-12-15 17:21	Colours in brochures are rarely correct, and these pictures are taken in a studio with white surroundings and lots of lights so the colour would appear darker in real life. Later models also had different wheels and bumpers, same as the 66. Some day we´ll know the answer If you´ll find pictures of the car it would be nice to see them.

I painted in white and it was really a beauty (I sold it in the mid 80's). The K70 is as rare in scale model as it was in real life , I think with Wiking, Heller only few toys make as Marklin and GAMA made it ...(maybe Mebetoys too?)... I've never had these ones.

A main problem of the K 70 was, that the VW-garages couldn't handle that car - too much high-tech for the Beetle-mechanics. so the bad reputation was coming soon. It was not a real VW, just a step-child, and this was to see all the time. But the NSU-roots made one thing easy: with a K 70 you are welcome on every NSU-meeting. In the oldtimer-scene it's a full accepted NSU. I own that brochure, in French, Italian and one or two more languages (I should sort my stuff). Interesting, that this brochure was made in several languages, but not in German. And it was printed in 9/1970, but all pics are showing a VW K 70. The pics in the first (and later, too) German brochures were retouched NSU-photos. VW was not very splendid und careful with their brochured in the 70ies. Cobble-work in the worst way. Check VW-brochures for the UK of the early 70ies - RHD-cars are just mirrored pics. Wahahaaa.
Ingo ◊ 2007-12-17 22:23	@Raul: I own that Majorette, too, with a Sterckeman-camping-trailer - sice I was 5 years old. Since that time I also have a red Wiking. And these two are my only die-cast-K 70. I collect K 70-literature, but no models. The reason is, that I've seen, that some of my friends have many more K 70-toys, too many, that I can hold with them. So I decided to be concentrated more on literature. One special interested, but then "hardcore" @sixcyl: the 1:43 NOREV-K 70 is brand new. On the market since end of November. It's the only die-carst K 70, which was launched since the 70ies.

But I know, it's a hard thing - only 4 cars were officially exported to Portugal. In 1998 I got a handfull literature on a VW-meeting in New Zealand. Happily I took it at home and put it in my board. 8(!) years(!) later I looked for the first time in a sales brochure. I was wondering, why there is an English text, but not the ugly cobbled "RHD"-pics. On one page I found a dealer's print - from Saigon, South Vietnam. Do you can imagine, how I must have looked?
rpcm ◊ 2007-12-17 23:33	As you know, the K 70 was never officially sold in Portugal. I think those cars you mention must have been imported by "Sociedade Comercial Guérin" in order to assess the possibility of the model being marketed here. The few I saw on the road were brought from abroad, specially from France and Germany. Nevertheless, I remember one yellow r.h.d. ( ex-UK ) that survived as a daily driver until the early 90s. Nowadays, I suppose only a very small number still exist.
Ingo ◊ 2007-12-18 18:37	I don't which company was the importer, I just have read in copies of the VW-export-statististic that VW has delivered officially 4 of them. There should have been some brochures in Portuguese language, because in multilingual inlay-sheets of the instruction manual there is also a Portuguese translation. And actually two eBayer from Portugal are buying sometimes K 70-spare-parts. I don't know them. So I put some auctions with parts in eBay, as a kind of bait. -- Last edit: 2007-12-18 18:37:20
