They were still making MkIV 3½ litres in 1947: /vehicle_128280-Jaguar-unknown.html ... but if the caption on this photo is correct it's a Jaguar, not an SS. For obvious reasons. |

Yes, this is a post war car. You can tell by the narrower chrome strip along the side. So it's not strictly speaking an SS Jaguar, but rather a Jaguar 2½ litre saloon or some would say Jaguar Mk IV. The 2½ litre and 3½ litre saloons are quite difficult to tell apart. The only real difference is the wider radiator grill of the 3½ litre. The cars are the same length. The 1½ litre has a noticeably shorter bonnet and doesn't use the big P100 headlamps of the larger cars. Peter |
