DAF 555 Sportcoupe. http://www.rallydaf.nl/DAF%20555.html We have a Swedish member named after it. |

I'd say the 555 was a coupé, and the car shown here for sure is not a coupé: check the painted metal frame of the side window. But indeed, DAF555 will tell us more. Btw, I wonder if the name Marathon is appriopriate. I think this was only used for later models with aftermarket sports kit and the sportier factory version, always recogniszable by the wide paintstrip on the side. |

My Dutch translation skills are zero, but I think this is the DAF 55 which finished 17th on the 1968 London-Sydney Marathon, and inspired the Marathon road car. "DAF equipe Rob Slotemaker/Rob Janssen met wagen no. 30 behaalde in deze monsterrit een 17e plaats in het Algemeen klassement." http://www.rallydaf.nl/DAF%2055.html - also has pictures. -- Last edit: 2010-07-24 17:53:18 |

That's exactly what it says... I checked the license plate (01-55-HD), and not surprisingly the car still exists. It is listed as Daf 55 tout court, license dates from 16th October 1968 (and the rally started the 24th November of the same year...). I'd propose to list it as 55 London-Sydney-Marathon'. |

Just found a great DAF museum page at Link to "www.themotor.net" Has a L-S Marathon 55, but possibly not this one. Lots of interesting Daf one-offs and prototypes. |
