Apparentely FX4s were produced under the Carbodies name from 1982-84, then London Taxis International took over. So will this be the first Carbodies FX4 on the site? -- Last edit: 2008-01-22 20:26:23 |

The LTI/Carbodies naming has been discussed before. With the introduction of LTI I think a 'Carbodies' badge was still used for some time until they were eventually badged 'LTI'. I believe result was the decision was made that all would be listed as LTI rather than try to determine an exact split. |

Why is it the DVLA lists many black cabs as "Carbodies"? Is it just that Carbodies is the maker but it is owned by LTI? |

Carbodies is the manufacturer (in Coventry long established in areas other than taxis). London Taxis International is the group controlling both Carbodies and all the retail sales and distribution. |

Yes, it is already difficult enough with the various models of these taxis which look all identicals, as anyway Carbodies and LTI are the same and especially because we already saw many errors in DVLA about these names (i.e. use of the wrong one for the given year). |

The original discussion about LTI or Carbodies naming with more of the history is here... /vehicle_37589-Austin-FX4-1979.html Without accurate information it is not possible to say when they were first actually badged as LTI. |

Carbodies lasted well into the nineties depending on your source. LTI was formed as a parent company in 1985. Just to confuse matters further they have changed their name again: http://www.london-taxis.co.uk/jsp/index.jsp?lnk=710&id=34 -- Last edit: 2010-12-21 14:11:06 |
