Vanguard Phase 3 Vignale Estate.

It does not appear to have the word SIX under the bonnet badge so i’m not going for that.

For those of you who are recent converts to this database and its ramblings, I took my driving test in one of these, 53 years ago.

Mine was a maroon Peugeot 205 Diesel, nearly 30 years ago. Despite being a car anorak and coming from a car-oriented family, I was a late starter.

Mine was a Triumph Herald 13/60 convertible. Great fun and bought in complete ignorance of anything , all I wanted is a local car with 12 months MOT for less than £250 !
I soon got familiar with a new word - Trunnions. It's high point was a front wheel collapse ( snapped trunnion !) right in the main entrance to Teesside Polytechnic.
Lost three front wheels in total through snapping trunnions and became rather adept at replacing them , my local scrap yard used to burn them off at the wish bones and sell them to me for a fiver.
The car was twelve years old when I bought and considered a complete banger, people used to come up to me in the street and offer me parts for free , once a complete car in fair condition , a 12/50 .
Happy days ! :)

Same here, my brother went abroad and left an Escort sitting on Mam's drive, after 3 months I phoned him and asked if I could use it, the answer was yes, when I'd passed my test, so 3 professional lessons and some practice reversing with my mates and I'd passed and KRM840P was mine.

A month or 2 later, brother phones and tells me to sell the car - he's skint, that's when I bought the Magnum.

As an apprentice on the 1960s a lot of my early driving experience was driving company cars, washing or servicing the cars and vans: new Anglias, Cortinas, Zephyrs, Veloxes, and Crestas driving around the inner factory roads. Just asked "can you drive?" followed by "the keys are over there". The banger ownership came a year or so later. Happy days indeed!

The Vanguard was Dad’s, shortly to be replaced by a Farina Cambridge. I bought Mr McKiernan’s 1954 Ford Popular, which was immaculately kept and £55. It then got a hard time commuting between Staffs and Berks weekly, and then 32 miles round trip daily until a rod came out of the block. A scrapper, bought for £7.10.0 supplied a spare engine which taught me how to hand scrape cast in white metal big ends. I eventually sold it for £35 and bought a Mini van which was a disaster, and then a Victor 1F, which was reliable until the rust killed it.

My Triumph Herald days came later, a £20 1200 coupé bought for grass hill climbs, with which I won the club hill climb cup before it (the Herald) fell to bits.
