 I was writing that this could be another instance in which the VIN has the generic code and we use the more specific code (like car-derived vans), but then I researched a bit and I noticed most references to [253] come from here :think: I don't see this code neither in the table posted here: Link to "www.autopareri.com"

Wiki says that the code should be [153] https://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fiat_Panda_(1980)#Prima_serie_(1980-1985) (here they define the 1986 model as 2a serie, moreover).
[153] would make more sense in my opinion, becuase Fiat usually uses [2**] codes for commercial vehicles.
ADAC also doesn't mention the different code for the Panda 4x4 Link to "www.adac.de"

I did a quick search (I'm with my smartphone because I'm not at home right now) and the only reference for [253] code I found is on IMCDb :think:

 Indeed 253 sounded a bit strange to me also for that reason..specific 4x4 type code should be 153 so.. ;)

 Yes, I think it will be needed. I noticed we correctly use [153] for 1980-85 anyway :think: another mass change about Pandas should be [141A] applied to all 1980-2003, according to Wikipedia and VINs..I'm putting together a group of mass change to ask antp :D
