Not a '53; not a Sedan de Ville, I'd say 1952; I'd add "Series Sixty Special on account of the hash marks on the lower part of the rear fender (all in all, poor photo). |

The front end is definitely 1953. Here are two more close-up shots (the full view does not get any better in the movie). And here are the front masks for '52 and '53: Therefore it is a 1953 Cadillac Series 60 Sedan. The bit "de Ville" is debatable. I only found that on one web-page: http://www.janwijnakker.nl/autoshtm/cady53.htm -- Last edit: 2005-10-12 01:17:03 -- Last edit: 2016-04-20 14:29:04 (karoomay) |

You are right; I apolgize. The image is so poor I took the "Dagmar" bumper-guards to be grille-mounted parking lights. It is, as I said previously, a "Series 60 Special" sedan(hash-marks on rear fenders). There was no "Series 60" in 1953. The "Series 60 Special" became a unique, separate model in the Cadillac range, starting in 1938. |

Those bumper guards are called "Dagmar"??? Is that official or did someone phrase that name thinking of a size-D bra? Two more questions to the specialist: So far I have not found the bit about "Special". Have you got some more information on that subject? On one page (http://www.car-nection.com/cadillacdatabase/Dbas_txt/Cad51-55.htm) they are called "60S", on another page (http://www.pevomuc.de/100-Cadillac/PECAAR.05/1953-A/1953-1.html) only "Sixty". That brings me to the second question: What is the official way to write it: "60" or "Sixty"? Some days ago we had the same discussion about Chevrolets ("Two-Ten" and "One-Fifty" models). |

All Cadillacs are written with number on the site currently, and since MrCadillac also uses numbers (and seems to be a specialist ) I followed him for that When people do a search (in Google or on the site) I think that they will more often type "Series 60" than "Series Sixty" -- Last edit: 2005-10-12 16:03:45 |

Either is correct: "60" or "Sixty", "60-S", "60S" or "Sixty Special". Technically, when the first "Sixty Special" appeared on the scene, in 1938 - thanks to Bill Mitchell, it was then un upscale "Series 60". But thereafter it became a full-fledged model in its own right, especially after the "Series 60" disappeard from the scene in 1939. It is definitely WRONG to call a "Sixty Special" simply a "Sixty". Go tell Peter Vogel ["pevomuc.de"] from me! BTW, "his" pages are full of images off "my" web site!) |
