Hindustan Ambassador (aka the good old ex-BMC Morris Cowley..reworked after the molds had been sold to India after they were no longer required in the UK)..in the classic car boom in the UK in the late 1980s , some bright spark came up with the idea of importing them into the UK as classic transport..only one problem..in India they dont care too much when it comes to exhaust emissions, and when the cars arrived in the UK they had to be sold as new vehicles and had to be reworked so they would pass UK emissions test..with the rework, each car cost nearly 6 grand to buy in the UK, when an original Cowley could be bought for £1,500..result was less than a hundred were finally imported into Britain ....ironically, Ambassadors from this batch do turn up for sale today..priced at around £1,500!!!!...i think they have mitsubishi engines. |
