I was born in 1979 and have lived in the Detroit area all my life.My exposure to domestic cars is disproportionately higher than that of people living in many other areas of the US.My father is in the auto industry and by the time I was 3 years old I could identify (at least partially)most cars on the road.Understandably, my largest area of knowledge is 70s American cars and certain 80s models as well.
Strangely, though, my first car was a 1987 Honda Accord. Everything else Ive owned has been American Iron.
I currently work in the security department at a university, which involves lot patrol and writing parking tickets, so much of my day involves watching cars.Yes..I actually get paid to drive around looking at parked cars.
I am a preservationist and a purist. I believe in saving as many old cars as possible.I dont have the funding or room to do this but I encourage others to do so. I also prefer older cars closer to the original condition rather than dramatically modified. I believe "Survivors" should be preserved in their true, natural form and to me, authenticity counts.
