It centers on Omar (Amir El-Masry), a young Syrian musician who is burdened by his grandfather's oud, the king of Arabic music instruments, which he has carried all the way from his homeland.". Unusual very atmospheric film, made on Outer Hebrides (North and South Uists, Benbecula) in winter so bleak and cold, showing the wasted lives of people waiting and waiting for their asylum decisions. Beautifully filmed, some gentle humour breaks the melancholy greyness, and it seems to be winning bucketloads of awards. Rejects from a flashback scene with a Skoda, presumably Syria Comedy buggy-in-the-wilderness moments Northern Lights (Aurora borealis) I've never seen a display this good, but it could be genuine rather than CGI. -- Last edit: 2021-12-01 23:06:17
