"Locomotive/caboose/train car:" Locomotive is Southern Pacific 4629, one of 10 EMD SW900 switcher locomotives delivered to SP in 1954; upgraded in 1965 and renumbered, and then again in 1974: http://espee.railfan.net/spsw900.html 4629 is probably long gone by now, but its sibling 4630 still exists in operating condition at the Niles Canyon Railway railroad museum: https://www.ncry.org/about/collection/diesel/southern-pacific-1195/ Train car is a Burlington Route (shortened form of the full name Chicago, Burlington and Quincy Railroad; in 1970 a merger with two other railways created Burlington Northern) 'Way of the Zephyrs' boxcar; Burlington's streamlined passenger trains were called Zephyrs. They operated tracks in the Midwest; this one in California has come a long way from home: ![]() |
