Thumb 2. “Narrated by Carleton Hobbs”, who played Sherlock Holmes for many years in BBC Radio 4 (the old Home Service) productions. https://www.arthur-conan-doyle.com/index.php/Carleton_Hobbs -- Last edit: 2024-01-16 14:04:08 |

![]() The above images taken from my copy of “Newnes Pictorial Knowledge” Volume 6 2nd edition May, 1933. I have relocated these images from the AEC Regal page as I thought that they were more appropriate here. -- Last edit: 2024-01-17 09:19:31 |

Thanks. I recalled seeing it, I knew which book it was in, but it took some finding! These days, when we all jump on jets to go on holiday, make the things in these pictures seem very antiquated. I remember going past Croydon Airport in the 1950s when we used to go to visit family friends in the south. The 1930s, the style, the cars and planes, the trains and the music have always fascinated me, but my Dad, born in 1916, had a tough time as one of 3 kids. His stepdad always kept in employment as a skilled man, but wages were poor. |
