Taken from

BFi/British Transport Films Volume 7: The Age of the Train 2-DVD set. Can be seen here - an interesting 12-minute film, probably aimed mainly for schoolkids with lots of so-that's-how-they-do-it stuff. And of course the great Peter Purves

as presenter in his sheepskin to attract kids attention.

Having watched lots of Thomas the Tank Engine as a young 'un, I recognize a few of these British locomotives. :D

The most famous steam engine here of course being Hardwicke, the London and North Western Railway "Improved Precedent" Class 2-4-0, which took part in the 1895 race to the north. (Through Staffordshire.)

It was more interesting than that, the two trains started, one on the West Coast line, the other on the East, and raced for Kinnaber junction. Thereafter was only one route. The one arriving first......

I'm more interested in the APT Prototype high speed train.
