I remember watching this for Halloween nearly 2 years ago when it was showing in theaters. Although I felt that it relied too heavily on jump scares (I recall a group a girls sitting behind me who kept on screaming on almost every jump scare) and had a stupid plot twist ending, it did deliver on being... well, scary.

I loved the story and the athmosphere, and the movie was legitimately creepy through most parts. None of the jumpscares really got me, as many of them were predictable. The one with the girl popping up behind the guy in the middle of the night was unexpected, but it didn't scare me as much as I wanted it to. The part with the lawn mower though, I saw it coming from miles away, but when it came, all of it just jumped up right in my face (scariest scare in the movie IMO). Bughuul was really creepy, but I kind of wish he made more appearances (unexpected ones, at that). Also, the ending felt pretty rushed. The movie lasted a bit longer than the usual horror movie, but they could've saved more time for the ending. Also, the ending wasn't scary at all. No. 1 rule: if your horror movie is supposed to have a bad ending, at least make it a really scary one - preferably it should be the most scary moment in the whole movie, but this often turns out to be difficult. Insidious is one movie that really accomplished this - then again, Insidious is possibly one of the scariest movies ever made (my opinion, again).
