Käthe von Nagy, Pierre Richard-Willm, Jaque Catelain, Aimé Clariond, tous jouent avec une pesanteur et une maladresse incroyables, spécialement les deux premiers, bien jolis mais bien mauvais. Seul Pierre Renoir, dans le rôle du major soupçonneux, tire son épingle du jeu. Tout ça, c'est de la faute à L'Herbier, pour sûr. Mais le même nous gratifie de quelques moments de grande facture, tel cette exposition par les rebelles du cadavre d'un espion britannique : Un seul véhicule automobile, vu deux fois — sans que je sois sûr que c'est deux fois la même voiture. One and only one car—which are maybe two—in this French military melodrama set in British ruled Irak, ponderous in its writing and acting, though with some moments of fine touch.
