![]() BBC/Open University This is the story of how film sold the car before the days of television advertising. Both the film and the car industries developed in the early 20th century. |

![]() 28-minute programme, now upgraded from DVD (BBC/Open University, 2008 - long deleted so no dedicated webpage now, but ebay/Amazon show details) ![]() - most pictures now slightly sharper so more detail visible; a couple of entries merged and a handful of new pages added, timings entered and other minor tidying. A reject bus - tantalising but no better views ![]() ![]() Nearly all the 1900s veteran cars are 1930s amateur footage of a parade in Southampton ![]() so no connection with London to Brighton listings unless individual cars happen to have taken part in both. Several manufacturer promo films used - at least 2 1930s from Austin, one late 1930s from Morris, and the 1939 Fords from ![]() promo film of Ford event at Brooklands, June 1939. Also some 1930s Public Information films about new road safety innovations (introduction of white lines, speed limits, roundabouts, traffic lights) The poor quality stuff from 25-50 to 28-00 is from a deteriorated amateur film of a club time trials at Cardiff airport and game of car musical chairs (!?!) in late 1940s (at least 1947 from one car). -- Last edit: 2017-03-29 16:23:47 |
