![]() From Nation on Film DVD (BBC/Open University, 2008 - long deleted so no live webpage, but ebay/Amazon show details) ![]() 28 minute episode about an extensive archive of amateur cine film from 1945 to end-1950s taken by Cyril and Betty Ramsden (dentist and teacher) in Leeds and around Yorkshire. The final (5th) film posted from this 6-episode DVD - the one about women's football was a complete blank for us. Episode commentary gets confused about dates of some of the films - eg a trip to France in "May 1945" involves a 1950 Jowett; as there's no way Yorkshire folk would tolerate anything as daft as Mustang model years, there's some editorial errors - either just plain wrong info, or separate sequences of repeat locations/events are being incorrectly joined. The camera they used most/all the time - apparently cost £90 then, equivalent of £3000 in 2006. "Auto Master" written on side, used 16mm film which had to be imported from USA. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Other stuff - a mower ![]() ![]() - a TV in "1952" - very early for the grim North ![]() ![]() - Le Touquet in "1945" ![]() - last day of Lawnswood trams in Leeds - seems 1956 (commentary and http://www.yorkshirefilmarchive.com/film/last-lawnswood-trams ) although not the last day of trams in Leeds which seems to be 7 November 1959 ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Planes for impdb - commentary says 1945 (but sequence includes the late-1950 Jowett driving onboard) and that they're ex-RAF wartime planes![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() .... so I think dodgy info. |

http://www.silvercityairways.com/fleetl_listing_3.htm That television looks highly suspect to me, unless it's a Philips 1800A or similar. 1950s CRTs were not flat like that, but see diagram. http://www.thevalvepage.com/tv/philips/1800a/phil1800.htm The first tv we had at home. http://www.thevalvepage.com/tv/pye/lv51f/lv51f.htm -- Last edit: 2017-04-12 19:17:01 |
