6 part detective series, set on Faroes and based on novels. Very paint-by-numbers plot with lots of holes (which suggests the books are clunky), formulaic Scandi-noir production (gloomy wintery weather, always rainy or misty). Some hints of the stunning Faroes scenery, but frustrating they don't really try to show its magnificence properly - this was the only "Wow - look at that!" moment

I wish people who make this type of series on fascinating island settings were braver and tried to really capture the dramatic opportunities instead of just trying to be grey and bleak for the sake of being grey and bleak. And try harder to make the plot work properly - this started well but dribbled away, and then the final episode spent its energies trying to set up a second series instead of wrapping things up properly.

But more importantly, what can we learn about cars in the Faroes?
- they're almost all Kias, with some Volvos, VWs and Mercs for variety. A few other things but not much - almost no UK stuff (only a Range Rover and a glimpse of a MINI), some Japanese (but mainly less recent), a few Fords, some French things (2 Citroens, 1 Renault) and perhaps unexpectedly in light of the deluge of Kias - no Hyundais..
- everything's very new - almost nothing more than 10 years old
- lots of vans, but hardly any large trucks or buses. Maybe the roads are small because of the landscape, and big things won't go through all the inter-island tunnels easily??

That reminds me of Harry & Paul's "Miserabel". :D

Britain used to make these bleak working class films, which were basically protest films against government policy, but then in the 90s you start getting things like Notting Hill with Hugh Grant, that's because of the brief love affair with Tony Blair.

While searching for a local plate check site, I've found the top 10 car sales stats in the Faroes.

Twin Peaks has a similar atmosphere in Washington state but it stays interesting because of several factors like good casting and surrealism. The surrealism of the Black Lodge adds an edge to the show next to many crime series that lack that. And unique things like how one of the female characters in the second season drives several different cars and it's not explained.

They used this location in the last James Bond movie with Daniel Craig. I thought there would be a car chase through the tunnels but that didn't end up happening.
