This film's depiction of the Georgia Peach was very inaccurate, depicting Ty Cobb as a racist when he was actually very open and accepting towards black players joining the major leagues, to the point that his obituary when he passed away praised him for speaking in favour of racial freedom in baseball. He believed that they should also be accepted in all walks of life, not just baseball. Quite a remarkable attitude at a time when buses, bathrooms, and water fountains were segregated by law. |

Can you feel the black GIs coming home with Nazi blood on their guns only to find they have to use separate facilities in every way of life? To have fought so hard and risked your life overseas only to be federally ostracized back home. I read the British even did a massive W when they reserved entire pubs exclusively for blacks against the USMP's segregation appeal for 'colored bars' in Britain. Quick question, did segregation apply in Canada at the time as well?... -- Last edit: 2024-03-31 14:54:45 |
