Nice to see that movie over here. :) - me and my wife have participated in it! But just behind the camera. ;)

The farmhouse is in original that tourist's lodge:
http://www.namibia-info.net/unterkunft/canyonlodge_fishriver.htm

We came there in Spring 2006, when the filmteam was working - with a remarkable "cabin fever" (understandable after several weeks in a lonely house far away in the loniest desert with two heavy rain-storm -the first in Namibia after 45 years of heavy aridity).

At first I was happy, when I saw the film-tea and have thought " :wow: A travel reportage! Great! Gerd Ruge!* Klaus Bednarz!* Or perhaps BBC world!"
* both guys are very popular travelling-journalists

- but then, after I've heard, that it will be a weepy love-and-hate-drama with nice people at nice locations, I was a bit pissed.
I was angry about the fact, that our public TV-fees (required in Germany) were thrown out for such a bullshit, because it was filmed by the ZDF, a state-owned TV-channel.

The next "gag" was, that my wife had an argument with the art director, just when we arrived. He told her, that it's forbidden(!) to park the car besides the horse-corral -visible in the Land Rover-pic-
Somewhere I still have the dialogue, I've noticed shortly after it (for me, just for fun :) ). Very funny, because typical German: a discussion of two bossy people.

One scene with my participation is surely cutted out. It was a sad, dramatic conversation between a lady and her lover. Moonlight, chirping insects - but interrupted by a marky "Bawwuuushhh". It was me, using the toilet left of the entry-door. ;)

You were there and you didn't even manage to get the K70 shown on screen? :p

I notice that "Afrika" is the first word of the title - not Namibia but Africa, the eternal, mysterious Dark Continent that makes such a wonderful background for the angst of white people. :)

Sorry, I haven't used my K 70 for driving 4500 km across Namibia, we took a rental car, a 2003 Nissan Hardbody. This was a good choice, because all the tourists, we have met, had cars like VW Polo or Toyota Corolla, had defects or breakdowns. From a broken plastic at the front bumper up to a bursted engine. This happend to a nice older couple from London. They tried to pass the pad (Namibian slang for gravel road) crossing a "rivier" (Namibian for "creek") with their Polo. "Suddenly there was a big bang and the whole street was full with oil", they told us. A big stone has smashed the oilsump...

Interesting, that in Namibia, one of the the sparsely inhabiteded countries of the world, usually help comes faster than on Middle European main roads... :/

Namibia, especially the middle and the south, is not "dark Africa", as you think about it. It is -a very strange experience for us Germans- often real German in an oldfashioned way. You British can get such "home"-impressions everywhere on the world, but fr Germans Namibia is the only country for that (except some villages in Southern Chile or in Paraguay or Brazil). In the other former German colonies (lost between 1915 and 1918) there are no "left overs" except a few buildings.

For seeing the real "dark Africa" you better should go to Sierra Leone, Ivory Coast, Central Afrrican Republic and the Congo". ;)

It is one. It was yesterday on TV again and my wife has watched it (she dislikes it, too, but she wanted to see our holiday-locations again). I had no interest at all, I've preferred to stroll around at IMCDB than to watch this junk.

I must admit, that I've shown a bit asshole-like behaviour there. I've asked the main actor, Sophie Schütt, for what channel they are working and what a film they are making.
"For the ZDF. A film in two episodes"
"Oh nice, a travelling reportage?"
"Eeeh, not really, a familiy-movie"
"So something with heart-pain, tears and many sentiments?"
"Hmmm, yes, you can say so."
"How great!"
- and I turned back on foot and went away.

O.k, I was a bit nasty, but I was angry indeed (so one day we had to drive for dinner to the next, not so luxourious lodge, because the team has occupied the whole guesthouse and restaurant).

You could really see, that the whole team was tired and pissed about the long time at this lonely place. One scene, where the lady with the dark hair (surely the bad one, it's always the same, blondes are good, brunettes are bad...) took a shower outside. They have repeated again and again. Everyone was f...ed up about this, only the stage director (a real caricature: big sunglasses, big cowboy-hat and a very campy, exalted behaviour - a poor try of copying Scorsese, Welles, Attenborough or whoever) was shouting around "Aaah, this great light! Watch the great light!" etc., was still in good mood.

I got some jealous glimpses from the others. I haven't said anything, I just waited quiet and with a friendly smile until the take was done "No problem, I can wait. I'm in no hurry, I'm on vacations." :p
Then I walked relaxed in my old shorts, an old shirt, with a towel and two bottles of ice cold beer to the pool, which I had for my own :D
