Really EXCELLENT heli. film, and a well-thought out storyline too. The 'Blue Thunder' helicopter is a modified Aerospatiale Gazelle. The Astro Division has Bell 206B Jetrangers, "Colonel Cochrane" (Malcolm McDowell) tries to shoot down Blue Thunder in an armed Hughes 500D (impersonating a 500MD Defender), a Bell UH-1D Huey (or a Bell 205) is visible in the background on the Astro Division pad at one point, and the news station 'KBLA-TV' has an AS-350D Astar that appears briefly in the low-level chase scene over L.A. towards the end of the film. Love it!!! |

This one liner is the main reason why this movie is so freaking awesome ( I wouldn’t fly with him for a bull that pissed Jack Daniels ) |

I believe I've spotted a missing car. There is a first generation Plymouth Valiant 4-door sedan. It appears in the testing demonstration at "pinkville" (approximately 32 minutes into the film). It is during the first weapon firing pass during the demonstration. It is the 4th car seen to explode. It is painted black, and appears to be a 62 by the tail lights. I can't be sure, but with a DVD copy and a new big screen it sure looks like round tail lights to me (as opposed to oval tail lights set into the back end of the horizontal "fin" at the back of the fender). There are a few other unlisted cars in the "pinkville" sequence, but I haven't been able to identify them. |

The helicopter used as Blue Thunder was a heavily modified Sud-Aviation SA 341G Gazelle |
