 I've been reading Spirou for 15 years now and "Spirou chez les fous" has to be bar none the most godawful adventure I have ever read. Who allowed this to happen? Artstyle like an eight year old's notebook doodles with lifeless colors, empty, void backgrounds and hideous character designs, Spip being the absolute worst offender.
And last but not least, a joke about Chechen children test subjects. Never in my life have I read something so crude in any of his albums or been so offended by my favorite bellboy. Not even "Spirou in Moscow" had such arcane humor, and that was already political as all hell. The fact that this is the first Spirou album I'm reselling really says a lot about it too.

In contrast "Le mort du Spirou" is the exact opposite. We get

an electric Turbot (with a design from the late 90s) return to Korallion, now run by von Ups' daughter, and for the first time in over 50 years, the classic Dupuis staff of Gaston fame (Mademoiselle Jeanne, Leblanc etc.) makes an appearance in a Spirou story. John Helena does not appear, but is alluded to in the form of a hint-giving moray. Probably the best story I've read in a long time.
Not a big fan of vaping Fantasio though...

I do not have that one in my collection - but having looked at images of it on Google - totally agreed about the artstyle, it reminds me of those ugly illustrations found on school milk cartons here back in the early 2000s.

 Yeah, I think the newer ones after the Tome & Janry era are no longer published in Norwegian, but we do get them in Germany. Worst album up until then was "Panique en Atlantique" and that wasn't even really bad, I just didn't like the Disney Channel art style.

Oh, but they are. For example:

I also have 'Panikk på Atlanteren', but like many of the others I have, I haven't had the time to read it yet.
The strangest adventure to me is probably 'Kvikk gifter seg' (Fantasio se marie) - but I like the artstyle.

I haven't read that one. Most of the special albums I've read (aside from the Bravo quadrilogy) are the compilations where they publish a bunch of one-shots they couldn't fit anywhere else. Franquin's reunion, a Bizu crossover...
