Il fut un énorme succès là-bas, suscitant, je le suppose, des vocations. L'histoire, pour faire bref, est celle d'un immigrant italien, Walter Chiari (qui promène sa silhouette dégingandée et son sourire amusé, et son flegme fort peu italien — plusieurs fois la remarque lui est faite qu'il n'a pas l'air d'un Italien) qui se heurte à un problème de fond : les promesses d'accueil faites par son cousin n'ont pas du tout été tenues. Il va lui falloir un travail et un toit. Mais la première partie du film est réellement captivante et amusante. On y voit même, filmé avec talent, ce que coûte à un homme le travail manuel, celui de terrassier et maçon. La suite est nettement moins tendue, puisque tout semble réussir à cet Italien charmant, dans un pays d'abord rude mais dont les habitants ont finalement un cœur d'or. L'on m'affirmerait que le film était sponsorisé par quelque Australian board de l'immigration que je le croirais volontiers. Ce Sydney de 1966 a tout pour attirer ceux qui veulent refaire leur vie ou la commencer. With a great first half, full of wit and other sorts of humour, this movie looks like an ad for migration to Australia. What comes next is a bit tepid. Nevertheess, there were a little bunch of probably home made vehicles to pick there. I was disappointed not to find any early Japanese import but yes, interesting. Besides, many vehicles here are still waiting for a definite identification. |
