DidierF ◊ 2014-10-07 23:43	All right, most of the pictures here are very ugly, but please do consider that 1. some sunny day, they'll know a nice and neat dvd release and 2. this movie by itself deserves its page. has been written and directed by Peter Glenville. (Besides, I don't know where the outdoor scenes were shot in England. There is a Parisian sequence, and the studio job was made in Dublin.) Its a very good story, very well told, with characters developed enough, and —against the title— the trial scene is not too long. Impressive Sarah Miles for her film debut —and this can be said of Terence Stamp too. Generally excellent performance of Laurence Olivier: Simone Signoret does her regular French-bad-woman-for-British-films act with all the meanness required. But I'd like to add two more salutes, to Hugh Griffith as O'Hara the barrister, and above all to Frank Pettingell who plays Ferguson the headmaster with all the slimy politically correct hypocrisy which make his mere two appearances (maybe 4 minutes in all) one of the most frightening and disgusting things of this movie, which has no shortage for that matters. Really something to watch! And being a teacher is not even required! Formidable petit film sur les malheurs d'un professeur trop dévoué, trop bon, et peut-être trop lâche de plus d'une manière (vous le verriez bien vite), admirablement bien écrit et dirigé, avec, l'air de rien, beaucoup de subtilité pour un sujet qui craint par-dessus tout les éclairages univoques. … Désolé pour les photos. -- Last edit: 2014-10-07 23:48:54
