DidierF ◊ 2015-03-20 16:02	Richard Thorpe's a psychological action flick, yes, with (not in credits ranking but left to right) Jack Lord, Gia Scala, Marcel Dalio, Dorothy Malone, Robert Taylor, and Martin Gabel as the greasy villain. Miklo Rosza signed one of his usual romantic-tormented score (yawn), and I learned through the credits that PG Wodehouse was also a lyricist, since one of his song —a nice light thing, You Found Me and I Found You— is sung here. The story is not very bright and not very well told. Dalio has a clownesque performance as Taylor's sidekick. Dorothy Malone has only one acting routine. But there are few nice moments, among some ridicules. The end, a bit of a let-down, is curiously the less far-fetched event of the movie: the reluctant smugglers… call the police! For once, it has to be highlighted. Well, that's almost all, folks. I liked the title (and there is a jockey killed in the movie). Some questionable stuff captured here and there to follow, plus three interesting planes (generally well filmed) for the IMPDb.org section. "Thriller" spycologique avec vétéran de la guerre de Corée tourmenté par un traumatisme mais qui reprend l'air quand même. Il gagne à la fin, le respect de soi-même et l'amour de son épouse dont il avait failli divorcer, dites donc ! Musique routinière de Rosza, grands moments de ridicules dans le film. Mais la photo est plutôt belle. Bah, pas de quoi se réveiller la nuit, hein ? Richard Thorpe… un tâcheron ? C'est pas lui qui avait fait "Les Vikings", pourtant ? -- Last edit: 2015-03-20 16:03:13
DidierF ◊ 2015-03-20 16:24	(Naaah, "Les Vikings" c'est de Richard Fleischer. Mais Thorpe avait commis "Le prisonnier de Zenda", qui était bien bon, tout de même.) Some things seen in back projection and elsewhere: between Gabel and Taylor, a British(?) light truck (Bedford?) and a Traction, The end of a Cadillac and the front of a Ford, here? And then, for another back projection made in Madrid, something I shuld have recognized, … one among many 4CV, … a DKW/IMOSA, … une Aronde, an interesting truck, unknown of me, … and a Type H. …

Then, the Beechcraft, seen for 25 of the last 30 minutes of the movie (there are other views among the thumbnails posted for the Chrysler, the Willys and the tank-truck): in 'Madrid', Spoiler - click here to see it in 'Egypt', with another tank-truck in 'Cairo' first, then in 'Catania, Sicily', avoiding a light tourist plane then flying to 'Corsica', refuelling again in 'Ajaccio', (with the third tank-truck) being intercepted by a French 'pursuit plane' (as Taylor says, a bit old-fashionly) Spoiler - click here to see it evading and crash landing in a 'Corsican' orchard, Spoiler - click here to see it … to the bemusement of the French Air Force pilot, played by a Frenchman, this I can swear: the only one to deliver with ease —and somewhat a very well acted detachment— his French lines, aside Dalio's, naturally. We don't see the Beech taking off the orchard, unfortunately. It would have been a treat. That's all, dear IMPDbers! One last word: you should try to find if the Beechcraft was not, by chance, Robert Taylor's own plane. -- Last edit: 2015-03-20 17:14:59
