jwplumley ◊ 2007-12-25 16:49	There is a yellow DeLorean in this movie, in the scene where they are visiting the red EV-1 that is in the auto museum. You can clearly see the rear of the car, it is in the adjoining row right next to and behind the EV-1. I know it is a Delorean, because I own one and could spot one a mile away! This would be rated as a one-star appearance. Thanks.

rjluna2 ◊ 2008-02-10 02:57	I think we killed electric vehicles due to $$$$ on oil! Government uses oil as an excuse for taxes purpose. Most oil baron tend to squash their competitors such as electric vehicles and whatnot for their infrastructure monopoly.

Mudflap ◊ 2011-04-25 14:13	I'd rather have a hybrid (Insight or Prius) than either of them. The Hummer - Massive, slow, scary fuel prices, horribly unpractical, makes you look ridiculous IMHO. The Tesla - Even more unpractical than the Hummer. And for a sports car, not that fast.

It shows every sign of lasting longer than me, and despite my wish to turn to electric propulsion I can’t see how I can save the planet by disposing of a perfectly roadworthy diesel car for something that will use up massive chunks of the earth’s resources before it even turns a wheel. -- Last edit: 2023-12-12 17:28:39

Sure, there are more places willing to set up charging stations in their parking lots, and that's all good. The current average battery range for new electric cars is now over 300 miles, which for the average commuter is over two weeks of travel. Charge times have come down. For a full charge, most can be done overnight, and the quick charges can get the vehicle to 80% within 20-30 minutes, which should provide plenty of charge for a daily commute. Electric cars actually less likely to catch fire after an accident than ICE. They also reported that the industry is in it's infancy, and shows signs of improving quickly as manufacturers and consumers get more experience with electric vehicles. Tesla, which has been at it longer, ranks in the middle of the pack, below Infiniti and above Ram Trucks. They did also point out that since electric vehicles tend to have longer warrantees than ICEs, the ownership costs are lower, as most of the repair work is covered under warranty. Jnglmpera ◊ 2023-12-13 05:30	Speaking from experience, when me and my dad tried to test out a Honda e last winter that was being offered at Honda's car sharing service, we could barely get out of the downtown of Tokyo because the battery was low, and half the time it was sitting at a charging station. I'm sure the EVs would be useful in city driving where you won't clock more than 2000 miles a year, but otherwise I can't see these being feasible in the countryside where cars are a must, unless every parking space becomes a charging spot and you can fill these cars up as fast as you can with the average Corolla.

To buy an electric car of similar standing to the near top of the range diesel I now have will cost about £70,000 at the currently advertised prices. If you look at the asking prices for other makes there is not enough difference to make viable any bargain involving the residual value in my current car. As far as rapid charging goes, there is no way that the current infrastructure of the 70 year old housing development in which I live can support such a load, and my solar panels, based upon yesterday’s contribution when the sun wasn’t visible all day don’t help. The logic of ditching a low mileage, well maintained diesel purely to go electric, especially with all the unseen disadvantages applying to the very few cheaper electric vehicles makes it, in my case, a no brain decision. Don’t do it. From “Carwow”. The Mercedes EQC has a RRP range of £64,950 to £81,225. Prices start at £64,950 if paying cash. The price of a used Mercedes EQC on carwow starts at £26,000.
